AWARD CATEGORIES

This year's Manchester Young Talent Awards consist of 14 different award categories across a variety of sectors, there is something for everyone. We want to champion young people across the whole of Greater Manchester. The criteria for nominees include the following:

  • Aged between 18 and 40 inclusive at the submission date (except “Rising Star”: 18-26 & "Collaboration project of the year - Organisation").

  • UK resident and working in and around Manchester.

Our awards reflect the diverse community that makes up Manchester’s young professionals. We encourage nominations across all races, genders, religions, identities, and experiences. 

1. Most Promising Young Person in Manchester (Rising Star Award)

This award recognises someone who is excelling in their chosen career, is making a valuable contribution to their employer or the economy and is achieving above and beyond expectations at a young age.
 
The judges are looking for someone who has demonstrated exemplary performance and who stands out from their peers. This can be demonstrated through their technical, commercial or practical abilities, client/customer care or focus, recognition of their work for clients, customers or their employer and engaging and responding to demands faced by their clients or customers and the profession/sector they work in.

This award is also suitable for apprentices, and nominees aged 18-26, may enter this and another category.


2. Legal Professional of the Year

 

This award recognises a truly exceptional individual’s contribution to the legal profession in the last 18 months. Nominees can be paralegals, trainee solicitors, legal executives or qualified solicitors.
 
The judges are looking for someone who has demonstrated exemplary performance in their field of expertise, standing out from their peers. This can be demonstrated through their technical legal ability, client care/focus, pro bono work, recognition of their work on major cases, projects or investigations and engaging and responding to demands faced by clients and the legal profession.

3. Start-up initiative of the Year - Individual or co-founding team

This award recognises a new startup that has identified and capitalised on an opportunity to develop their own or start a new business or who has created an innovative idea to improve an existing process or service. The judges are looking for an individual who has achieved the above through hard work, dedication and determination.
 
The winner of this award is likely to be someone who has made an outstanding contribution to the Manchester region within the last 2 years. This can be demonstrated through technical, commercial or practical abilities, client/customer care and/or focus and engaging and responding to demands faced by their clients/customers and their profession/sector. 

4. PA/EA & Business Support Professional of the Year

This award recognises a Personal Assistant, Executive Assistant or Business Support Professional who has shown an outstanding commitment to their business or organisation. Nominees should be able to demonstrate how their skills and hard work have had an effect on the running of the business or organisation they work for.

 

5. Talent, HR & Recruiter of the Year

 

This award recognises an individual who has exceeded their firm’s expectations/targets consistently through hard work and dedication. Entrants are invited from across the recruitment, talent and HR sector. The individual nominated will have to demonstrate to the judges how they are the best young HR/talent or recruitment professional within the  Manchester region. This can be demonstrated through their technical, commercial and/or practical abilities, client care and/or focus, recognition of their work on major projects and engaging and responding to demands faced by clients and their profession/sector.

6. Finance Professional of the Year


This award recognises an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the financial services industry. Nominations are welcome from finance professionals working in practice or industry and from any background. The individual nominated will have to demonstrate to the judges how they are the best finance professional within the  Greater Manchester region. This can be demonstrated through their technical, commercial and/or practical ability, client care/focus, recognition of their work on major deals or projects and engaging and responding to demands faced by their clients and their profession/sector. 
 

7. Sale & Business Development Professional of the Year

This award recognises an individual who has positively enhanced the image and reputation of a company through ideas and the use of technology. Entrants are invited from across a variety of sectors incorporating key roles in Sales and Business Development. The individual nominated will have to demonstrate to the judges how they are the best young professional within the Manchester region for their category. This can be demonstrated through their technical, commercial or practical abilities, client care and/or focus, recognition of their work on major sales, by engaging and responding to demands faced by their clients and their profession/sector.


8. Marketing & communications Professional of the Year

This award recognises an individual who has positively enhanced the image and reputation of a company, either as an in-house or client-facing function, with entrants invited from across the Marketing and communication community. The individual nominated will have to demonstrate to the judges how their technical, commercial or practical abilities have supported a step change in an organisation's profile, supported client care and/or focus, or supported a major project/campaign leading to a demonstrable impact.


9. Creative Professional of the Year*

This award recognises an individual who through creative, technical and/or commercial acumen has excelled this year as a creative and design professional. Entrants are invited from across the creative sectors. The individual nominated will have to demonstrate to the judges how they are the best young media or creative professional within the Greater Manchester region.  This can be demonstrated through recognition of their work on major creative projects, response to client/ sector needs and/or demonstration of their technical/creative contribution to the sector.

10. Global citizen of the year*

This award recognises an individual or team who has worked to tackle global challenges. Examples of challenges can range from social responsibility to ecological (sustainability and climate change), to supporting disaster responses. The judges will be looking to hear how their efforts have helped to address the issue, including the learning the individual or team has received from this.

11. Hospitality team of the year

This award recognises a venue in the hospitality industry, who have gone above and beyond its duty, delighting customers and looking after staff. The team should be able to demonstrate examples of how they have exceeded the expectations of their venue and customers and/or supported community initiatives. This award is open to both established and newly opened venues (within the past 18 months).

12.Team of the Year

This award recognises a team who over the past 18 months has raised their organisation’s profile, had a positive impact on their community and/or made an outstanding contribution to their industry/sector. Entries are welcomed from teams working in the Manchester area and from any background. The judges are looking for teams that can demonstrate the above qualities. This can be demonstrated through technical, commercial or practical know-how, client/customer care and/or focus, work on major deals, projects or programs etc. and engaging and responding to demands faced by their customers/clients and their profession/sector. 


13. Collaboration project of the year - Organisation*

This award recognises a collaboration project between two or more organisations, which has sought to address a key issue in their sector. This could range from looking to create a new service, platform or product, that tackles a global issue. Nominees should be able to demonstrate how this collaboration project has led to a step improvement and/or achieved a significant milestone.  
 
*Because this award is at an organisational the criteria of 18-40 is lifted, however, the applicant must demonstrate how this has supported young professionals (18-40) within their organisation (either through being involved in the collaboration or as a direct result). The project lead should be the lead applicant.

14. Greater Manchester Community Project - Individual/Team*

This award recognises an individual/Team who over the last 18 months has gone above and beyond to help support the local Greater Manchester community. The judges are looking for exceptional people or teams, aged 18-40 who have worked to benefit others within the wider community, including the impact of their efforts on the community in question.
